Week of May 30th
Sunday, May 30, 2010 at 3:49PM Missions in Ireland. After a time of prayer and reflection, Ben Peddycord has decided to spend his first semester abroad serving in a Christian missions setting (with a missions agency called "Youth with a Mission"). His time overseas will be in community with other students and will involve some theological training as well as numerous Christian ministry opportunities. Let us keep Ben in our prayers. Presently, Ben is seeking to raise the support that he needs to fund this trip. Please consider having your car washed at an upcoming fundraiser, the proceeds of which will support Ben's mission. The carwash will be held at: First United Methodist Church, 224 North Fayetteville Street (12-5pm) on this Saturday.
Felt Board. Many of you took home portions of the new felt board to cut out. Please remember that we need those pieces this Sunday! Many thanks to all of you who are helping with this.
June 11th - Our screening of As we Forgive will be here before we know it. Please: Pray that this would be a successful event. Invite your friends and help us distribute flyers and pamphlets. Volunteer to help.
Community Group - tonight we will discuss chapter 2 of The Screwtape Letters. We will order pizza. RSVP so I know how much to order. As always, a small financial contribution to help offset the cost of the pizza is always welcome (but never required).
Evening Prayer - Beginning this Sunday we will say Evening Prayer on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month. In response to some questions, let me try to clarify what to expect:
"Evening Prayer" is a daily service (from the Book of Common Prayer) which is meant to be said corporately (i.e. in a church) but which may also be said at home. It is not a Holy Communion service, rather it is meant to be preparation for Holy Communion. I think it important for us to have the opportunity to receive Holy Communion at least once a week and so any who desire to receive the Sacrament will be able to do so, immediately after the EP service. But since we obviously cannot say the whole HC service following EP (that would be a bit too long!), we will receive from the "Reserve Sacrament", which is basically bread that is already consecrated (from the previous week). We will receive the bread only (not the cup).
