Mission, Vision and Values

Before St. Andrew’s began weekly worship services, we met as a small group and talked about our commitments as a new mission church.  The following Mission, Vision and Values are some of the things that we hope will characterize us.

Our Mission as a church

Our mission is what we are supposed to do.

Our Mission is taken from the “Great Commission” that Jesus gave to His disciples just before His ascension.  This mission is not peculiar to St. Andrew’s, but is the mission of the entire Church.

“Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them.  And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted.  And Jesus came and said to them, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.  Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age."  (St. Matthew 28:16-20)

Our Vision as a church

Our vision is how we are striving to accomplish our mission.

Our vision is to plant a new church in the Anglican tradition in Asheboro.

Whereas we regard our Mission as permanent (that it we do not anticipate that it will change), we believe that the Vision of a particular church does change from time to time.  We want to be sensitive to God’s leading and responsive to His direction.  As we see this vision statement accomplished (by God’s grace) we will gather again as a church and establish a new vision statement for the next season of the life of our church.

Our Values as a church

We are:

  1. Committed to these Sure Foundations of classic Christian faith and practice:  (a)  the Bible, (b)  the Ecumenical Councils, (c)  the Creeds and (d)  the Anglican Formularies.
  2. Committed to Relational Evangelism.  Growth comes through initiating and building kingdom relationships with people not connected to Christ and his Church.
  3. Committed to Making Disciples through small groups.
  4. Committed to be a Welcoming Community that longs to bring others into the family of God.
  5. Committed to God-centered Worship within the tradition of the Anglican way of being Christian (liturgical, Eucharistic, reverent, etc.).
  6. Committed to being a church devoted to Missions (both foreign and domestic), expressing the reality of God’s Kingdom in the world.
  7. Committed to Radical Generosity through sacrificially giving our of time, talent and treasure.
